Ekaterina (sometimes Kat) immigrated to the United States from Russia when she was 7 years old and speaks both Russian and English fluently. An incredibly driven person, she won a scholarship to the school of performing arts. She's very friendly as a result of having had to work extra hard to make friends as a kid (she had a very thick Russian accent for a while that was hard to shake), but she sometimes hides behind that friendliness. Ekaterina is better at traditional academics than she is at the harp (her instrument of choice), but she works very hard and manages to stay in the middle of the pack. She started at the school as a freshman.

Ekaterina's father is a silversmith and her mother was a nurse in Russia, but is now a stay at home mom. Ekaterina has two older siblings; Alexei is 26 and just started medical school after having pursued his undergraduate degree in Biology. Erik is 19 and just began college, where he hopes to be an Economics major. Their family is not wealthy in terms of money, but they aren't poor either--Ekaterina's father does beautiful silversmithing work, and she always wears a silver necklace he made her with a tiny harp on it to remind her of him. Her mother is rather cool and distant, but loves Ekaterina in her own way. Her family lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
